Planning your Dream Wedding: 3 Tips for an Unforgettable Day

Updated: Aug 9

You’ve just said “yes,” and now the excitement of planning your dream wedding begins! With countless details to consider, it can feel overwhelming. After filming my last wedding, I was reminded of how even the smallest touches can significantly impact your overall experience. In this blog post, I’m excited to share three often overlooked tips, using that wedding as inspiration, to help you craft the most incredible day imaginable. Let’s get started!

  1. Don't rush your timeline

When you're able to create a spread out timeline, you're allowing yourself the ability to be present on your wedding day, and have more time for spontaneous moments. On Nikki and Ariel's wedding day, there were multiple instances where we were able to get creative and create the perfect atmosphere for before the ceremony even started.

One instance of this is giving Nikki time to write a sweet little love not to ariel to read before the ceremony. The photographer and I pulled her out to a private chair and table in front of a large beautiful window, and stepped back to give her a moment to just soak it all in. Because of this, we were able to capture her from multiple angles, while documenting in a laid back way. Once she was done, I was able to get her recorded speaking the letter out loud.

Another instance of this is giving her time to be completely glammed up, ( in the CUTEST bridal getting ready set) to have a little champagne in the bathtub, have a little sing along, dance sesh with her girls, and more. Without being rushed to get into her dress, she was able to create these special moments with the people closest to her.

In the evening, we were able to escape inside, and spend some time taking night time portraits, and it was the BEST! Dancing on the bed, champagne in the tub, all of it was so so fun. Again, because the timeline was so loose, we were able to help them create such special, intimate moments on their wedding day.

During this section of portraits, I wanted to exaggerate the romance and the spontaneity, so I used a slow shutter approach, creating motion blur to emphasize the feeling.

2. Your Bridal Attire Matters!

It's not commonly talked about, but what you wear on your wedding day completely dictates the vibe of your photos & the overall aesthetic.

When getting ready on your wedding day, wear something picturesesque and cute! If youre having photography and videography coverage during this time, you might as well utilize it to get the best shots imaginable.

This principle continues with your wedding dresses. If you’re aiming for dynamic photos with movement, consider a dress with a flowing train. Nikki’s first dress was a gorgeous princess-style gown, perfect for those dreamy, dramatic shots.

For her reception, she opted for a chic white mini dress that gave off a classic Meredith Blake, old-money vibe. Both choices complemented her groom’s black-and-white look beautifully, tying the whole wedding aesthetic together.

3. Your choice in Photographer and Videographer matters to create your dream wedding.

When looking for your media team, it's important to know what professionals bring to the table. It's easy to think that anyone with a nice camera can capture your photos and video in the same way, but that couldn't be farther from the truth. Not only does the right team help guide you to get the best shots possible, we are actively looking for the right composition, lighting, spontaneous ideas, things that someone with less experience is just not going to know.

During Nikki and Ariel's day, the photographer and I worked together to come up with fun and unique prompts and guidance for our couple to not feel like taking portraits was a chore, but fun instead.

It's the best feeling for me getting to work as a team with photographers even when I haven't worked with them before. Riley from Oregon and I were able to work cohesively and quite honestly, it felt like the dream team.
